It’s half term – I’m keeping busy!

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

As i’m not teaching this week I’ve been raiding my sewing boxes and routing through old scraps and fabrics – I can use up lots on my new ‘tiny angel’ christmas decorations. It spurs me on to produce stuff when I know I’m not paying for the materials – and have had another order from the io gallerytoo.

PICT0099I’ve still got a load of tweedy/autumny fabric from Vicky – these cushiony type owls will hopefully do OK.

Worthing Dome – they want more!

October 2, 2009 · 1 Comment

Have just had a call from the Dome Gallery asking for more toys – think i’ll try out a few types this time. Worthing might be a bit slower than Brighton but i’ll give it a go.

I’ll be making some more ‘tweedy’ looking owls and maybe some dogs – as Vicky offered me a load of scrap fabric from the Theatre Wardrobe dept. at Northbrook College – its amazing in there, think i’ll be visiting quite a lot!

I’m going to start making little dachshund dogs too – I’ve made this one up in felt – didn’t take too long but longer than the other stuff so may charge a bit more.

I’m hopefully in a couple of Christmas open houses/fairs this year so will make some more of the ‘Jellies’ – they are pretty easy to do and people of all ages are taking a shine to them – to just sit on the shelf and look cool…

More creations…

October 1, 2009 · 1 Comment

Think I could get into this site… I’ve decided to put a few more pics on here as I seem to keep changing the designs – its good for peeps to see past toys and colours etc.

The end product depends on the t-shirts I have at the time – never a repeat so each toy is different from the next. Online customers will be able to choose a colour – but will not actually see the end result as this will involve a constant turn around of images online. Hopefully people will trust that i’ll make a good job of it. Bit risky though maybe? Hmmm i’ll try it and see.

After the success of the really soft bunnies selling well (the ones that are baby safe – no buttons or bits) – I’ve made some soft owls too. I’m dropping them all off tomorrow to the io gallery www.iogallery.co.uk  so hopefully they will be as good:

pict0087PICT0089and I’ve made some ‘Crazy Cats’ or Cute Cats or another name that I have yet to think of that doesn’t sound so tacky. I’ll put these in the shop and see how well they go down – not too sure about the faces on them but then you never know – people have different taste I guess.

Hello world!

September 16, 2009 · 3 Comments

Well I think i’ll start blogging today to see if I like it and to see whether anyone is interested.

I’ve been making toys to sell in the io gallery in Brighton and the Dome Gallery in Worthing – a friend is designing me a website www.elliebond.co.uk so you will be able to buy these little creatures online too – woot woot!

I started off in 2007 with ‘Alfred Owls’. They each had a name and a little poem on their tag:

An Alfred Owl is a wise old bird,

what ever the sound he is sure to have heard,

some say an owl sleeps all through the day,

but my Alfred Owl likes to come out and play.

An Alfred Owl keeps your secrets inside,

it is in him that you can confide,

whoever you have picked to be your true friend,

be sure to know his love will never end.

Hmmmm… pretty cheesy but it’s quite sweet I think! oh and I decided to name the owls ‘Alfred Owls’ as we live in ‘Alfred Place’ so there we have it.

Some of the first ever creations:

One of my unique selling points is that I make them all from recycled clothing – so lots of old men’s trousers and scarves are purchased from many a jumble sale or carboot. (Yes I do bung them in the wash!)

Righto – I’m going to see if I can work out how to post this ‘blog’ – might do another one soon – toodaloo.
